Manager of People & Operations

This key position, located in Victoria BC, in addition to providing high level HR support, will also provide the necessary and ongoing administrative support required across the board within Driftwood. Reporting to the Business owners and company leaders, the Manager of People & Operations will be accountable for all related activities within their department and will be a key player in the continued success of Driftwood Communications.

Position

The Manager of People & Operations provides ongoing advice and support to all departmental leaders from employee recruitment, employee training and development to employee relations and disciplinary matters. This role also includes providing HR reporting and on-going performance management initiatives in accordance with applicable legislation, policies and procedures. The successful candidate must enjoy working in a fast paced environment, genuinely like working with people and be excited to help foster an open, transparent and happy workplace.

  • Diploma in Human Resources Management, Labour or Industrial Relations or a related field from a recognized College. Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years related HR experience

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with HUMI HRIS and Payroll
  • Experience in the Telecommunications industry

Telecom Lineman

Job Summary: Driftwood Communications has an exciting opportunity for OSP Linemen Technicians. You would be joining a team of dedicated, diversified and energetic people all committed to meeting deadlines for our clients while upholding the most stringent safety standards within the industry. The successful candidate will be working with various wire mediums that include coax, copper, fibre and strand in all environments and weather conditions. The successful candidate will be operating various lift vehicles and equipment including Telsta’s, cable lashing machines, confined spaces devices, pumps and blowers. In addition, the successful candidate will be required to follow all safety practices that include daily truck inspections, on site toolbox meetings and all other industry and company safety practices.

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license and provide a recent driver abstract
  • Successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to safety while working in all environments
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, in a team environment as well as independent
  • Able to work in a physically demanding atmosphere, lifting over 75 lbs., climb ladders, handling of cable reels, entering confined spaces and other related tasks
  • Being self-disciplined and organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  •  Customer focused individual with a commitment to quality workmanship and craft
  • Skilled in interpreting and implementing engineered design maps and records

Responsibilities:

  • Able to work with limited supervision with the installation of all wire mediums
  • Performing all tasks safety with a focus on the crew and pedestrians
  • Ability to coach, train and mentor team members in the craft
  • Knowledge to lead a team if required
  • Knowledge of infrastructure placement for both aerial and underground situations
  • Knowledge for proper placement to install copper, fiber, coax and strand
  • Able to identify and wreck out old infrastructure such as cable and strand, including pole changes

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the industry 
  • Confined spaces certificate  
  • Aerial Lift certificate  
  • WHMIS and Power Awareness certification 
  • Defensive driving certification 
  • First Aid is an asset 
  • Traffic control is an asset 
  • Holding a Journeyman’s certificate is a plus

Telecom OSP Fiber & Copper Splicer

You would be joining a team of dedicated, diversified and energetic people all committed to meeting deadlines for our clients while upholding the most stringent safety standards within the industry. 

The successful candidate will be working with both copper and fiber in aerial and underground locations in all-weather environments. In this role, you will be responsible for splicing, testing activation and providing documentation and other related tasks. 

In addition, the successful candidate will be required to follow all safety practices that include daily truck inspections, on site toolbox meetings and all other industry and company safety practices.  

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license and provide a recent driver abstract  
  • Successful candidate will be required to pass a criminal record check 
  • Attention to detail with a commitment to safety while working in all environments  
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, in a team environment as well as independently 
  • Able to work in a physically demanding atmosphere, lifting over 75 lbs.,

  • Having Aerial Lift, Confined Spaces, First Aid, Ground Distance, Fall Arrest, Ladder Safety & Handling, Hydro Awareness/ 7 Steps to Safety are all assets 
  • Willingness to support after hours and emergency call outs  

Responsibilities: 

  • Skilled in copper and fiber placing, splicing, activation and testing to meet client standards, 
  • Having the ability to troubleshoot active networks is essential 
  • Able to work in a team atmosphere as well as independently  
  • Ability to coachtrain and mentor others in the copper and fiber craft 
  • Experienced in leading a team working together to meet project due dates  
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in the placing / lashing of various materials  
  • Skilled with PIC color coded and count identification 
  • Knowledge of the TELUS TOPPS documentation is an asset 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in splicing, activating and testing for copper and fibre in various work situations 
  • Valid driver’s license  
  • Experience in working with pressure testing 
  • Strong organizational skills  
  • Understanding knowledge of the TOPPS standards for copper and fibre expectations  

Location: Vancouver Island, North & South Island

OSP Designer II (Fiber/Copper)

Driftwood Communications has an exciting opportunity for an experienced OSP Designer II (Fiber/Copper)

If you are a Designer/Planner of telecommunications networks and have experience reviewing and designing plant for major telecommunication projects, then we need to talk.

We are currently looking for an experienced OSP Designer II (Fiber/Copper) to join our team in Alberta or BC. You will be an integral part of the planning, design and quality assurance teams and will use your skills to support the successful completion of our Client projects.

Requirements:

  • 2 – 5 years’ experience working within copper/fiber plant and fiber design
  • Working knowledge of PON or TELUS network design standards and architectures
  • Organized and self-motivated with strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with CAD Software
  • Working knowledge of construction or telecom documents, drawings, specifications and current construction practices and methodology
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Office based role with travel to site as required

Assets:

  • Experience with the following Tools
  • IKE GPS
  • Trimble (or like survey tool)

Responsibilities: 

Review all assigned projects and confirm scope of work is correctly defined. If not, follow-up with stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and adjust quote with acceptance from client

  • Determine all project stakeholders, and collect and record role and contact information details
  • Conduct field site surveys of assigned projects to collect field data required; ensuring all information specific to the scope of the project is collected and documented.
  • Prepare outside plant design, including civil and cable design, for fibre networks (GPON/FTTP) and copper networks:
    • New Development
    • Upgrades
    • Forced Relocations
    • Node Segmentation & Backbone
    • Power Realm Segmentations
    • Fiber POP Sites
  • Prepare and submit various types of permits and applications required for a project:
    • Aerial & Underground Infrastructure
    • Civil Permits
    • Municipal Road Use Permits
    • Other types as required
  • Prepare various CAD designs & drawing to support designs and permit applications for each project:
    • Underground infrastructure designs
    • Aerial infrastructure designs
    • IFR, IFC, ISP Drawings
    • Other types as required
  • Maintain communication with Stakeholders ensuring relevant information is available for informed decisions and actions and timelines are shared
  • Maintain copies of all project communications
  • Record all information and file documents for all projects to the established standards
  • Ensure schedule deadlines are adhered to and project deliverables are maintained
  • Travel and work on site as required
  • Follow company standards and procedures related to Health & Safety while performing assigned job duties
  • Other duties as assigned or required
